System Engineer «TOOLS » for SCOM and ITM/NETCOOL 411 views1 application

The role of the System Engineer “Tools” is a combined role with a mix of operational and project related activities. It will be de-facto a role that will be performed within a technical heterogeneous environment that combines different technologies and platforms.

General Role Description:

  • You will be responsible for the daily operation and the follow up of question in regards to the different products and applications that have been implemented within the TOOLS domain.
  • The system engineer will perform pro-active and reactive actions to ensure that the application remains available and performs accordingly. This includes activities within the domains of DRP, monitoring, scheduling, security, … .
  • Part of the work will be the implementation of new functionalities or new components within the current setup.
  • Works closely with the different delivery Service Delivery and Technical Delivery teams.

First Role description:

  • Understand the SCOM architecture and components
  • Maintain an SCOM solution based on enterprise requirements/environment
  • administer the SCOM environment
  • Perform performance tuning and problem determination for SCOM
  • Understand the needs of the enterprise to provide an ongoing solution to the SCOM environment
  • Customize the SCOM environment including building of workspaces, situations, policies and historical data collection
  • SCOM will be integrated with ITM/Netcool , clear monitoring definitions needs to be setup between the 2 monitoring products. In time this could lead a second role in collaborating within the ITM/Netcool environment
  • Move the current version SCOM 2007 to SCOM 2012

  • Communication, analytical
  • Maximum knowledge of the following :
  • Deep knowledge and experience of SCOM
  • Knowledge of Windows OS
  • Knowledge of ITM and/or Netcool is an added value
  • Working knowledge of OS, networking, and firewall
  • Good knowledge of the following tools : Windows Powershell, Unix shell scripting, SQL, XML
  • Basic knowledge of security (SSL, data encryption, GS Kit, system user accounts)
  • Basic knowledge of protocols including HTTP, LDAP, and SOAP
  • Experience with IBM Service Management products, Application and Infrastructure performance management tools is an asset
  • Experience with other tools and development languages is an asset : Java, C#, Eclipse, BMC monitoring and event management tools (Patrol, BEM)
  • Language : French and English (Dutch is an asset)
  • Depending on the criticality of the setup an on-duty role can be required
